Skiing

In the winter, you drive in a few minutes to the valley stations of the ski areas Katschberg-Aineck, Grosseck-Speiereck and Fanningberg. Within 20 minutes you are at the lifts of Obertauern, recently declared Austria's snowiest and snow-sure area!

The nice thing is that each ski area has its own characteristics and is therefore very varied. Characteristic of all areas is that a large part of the slopes is blue or 'light red' from top to bottom. Because of that, the areas are very accessible to winter sports fanatics of all levels. For example, in the Lungau with the A1 piste on the Aineck you will find the longest and widest piste (over 6km) of the Salzburgerland. Also located here is the highest ski slope of the Salzburgerland (from the non-Glacier areas) on the Grosseck at 2400m altitude. Finally, the slopes with the highest altitude (2400m - 1000m) of the Salzburgerland can also be found here! In Obertauern is the Tauernrunde where you can go around the whole ski area in 1 day!
Because mass tourism in the Lungau is not on the agenda, the slopes are generally quiet and remain in good condition for a long time and this greatly improves the skiing pleasure! The ski bus stop is approx. 5 minutes’ walk from Lungau Residence.

There are also numerous ski areas outside the Lungau which are very easy to reach. Within a 30 to 60 minutes’ drive you are in super ski areas like the Turracher Höhe, Innerkremms, Goldeck, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Murau-Kreischberg, Flachau, Zauchensee-Flachauwinkl or Schladming. These areas are located in Salzburgerland, Styria and Carinthia respectively.
