By car, Tamsweg and Mauterndorf are easily accessible via the A10 autobahn. You can take the exit for St. Michael/Tamsweg in the Lungau directly from the motorway and you will arrive within ten minutes. You arrive at a height of more than 1000 meters via the motorway, so you do not have to pass dangerous mountain passes or even through an elongated mountain valley and that saves a lot of travel time! In principle snow chains are not necessary in winter, but don't forget that snow chains are also mandatory in Austria!

If you prefer to fly, Salzburg and Klagenfurt are one hour away and therefore the closest airports. Graz Airport is less than two hours away. München, Innsbruck and Vienna are about three hours away.

The Lungau area has been declared to be a biosphere park by the UNESCO world heritage organisation. This means that the Lungau is of an unprecedented natural beauty, where people are living and working in an authentic way with respect for the natural environment.

The Lungau is located in the southernmost part of the state of Salzburgerland. It directly borders the states Carinthia and Styria. Because of this unique location you can easily make trips to these states and enjoy a different environment and atmosphere.

Due to the very convenient location near the A10 Autobahn, numerous destinations in neighboring countries can also be reached within 2 to 3 hours. For example, Udine, Triest or Venice in Italy, Ljubljana or Maribor in Slovenia or what do you think of Porec or Pula in Croatia?
